Care of hand dyed fabrics & threads

While every attempt is made to ensure that the threads and fabrics are colourfast, and that all loose dye has been rinsed out, please do not assume that this is the case.

If you wish to wash your finished piece then it is best to prewash your threads and fabrics to test for colour fastness.

Always wash in cold or lukewarm water using a very mild detergent, rinse thoroughly in cold water and then lay out to dry.

For threads it helps to leave them to dry on a piece of kitchen towel, if the colours are going to run they will soak into the kitchen towel and you will be able to see if they have run, and how badly. Reds in particular are prone to running so take especial care with these colours.

When washing your finished piece follow the same guidelines and either iron dry straight away, or leave to dry flat rather than hanging the piece up, to prevent colours running. Should you see colours starting to bleed while washing then switch to cold water and rinse over and over again to remove the bleeding.
